The Enneagram Test
The Enneagram Test
If you’ve never heard of the enneagram test, it is similar to Myers Briggs. You take a test and it tells you what number you are between 1 and 9, and each number is a different personality type. You can find free versions of the test on google, but I personally don’t think they are very accurate. The way I figured out my number was listening to an episode that the Liturgist Podcast posted about the enneagram test (you can get it free on the podcast app).
Right now, I am obsessed with this test. Someone once told me that another way to say “I love you” is “me too.” That really rings true for me. I love reading about my type and realizing that someone out there understands the craziness that is going on in my brain!! I have asked all of my friends what type they are and have looked more into how each type interacts and it all blows my mind.
I am a type 9 – through and through. This type is most known as “the peacemaker.” As the podcast was describing each type, I related to things here and there, but then they got to 9. And I just kept saying NO WAY. NO WAAY. It was scary how much it described me. The reason 9s are called peacemakers is because that is the goal. 9s strive to keep internal peace and external peace.
To keep the internal peace, if a 9 thinks you are a threat to their inner harmony, they will keep you at an arms length. To keep the external peace, 9s won’t assert their opinions or beliefs if they think it’ll cause disagreement or conflict.
But sometimes I think they should call it “the peace-faker.” It’s like the meme of that dog that’s sitting in a room saying, “this is fine” while the room around him is burning down in flames. I HATE CONFLICT – in every movie I have ever watched I always think the conflict lasts too long. I want the happy ending. I want to fast forward to the part where the one person forgives the other person or the good guys win the fight or the guy finally gets the girl and then all is happy again. I hate the middle part. And don’t even get me started with movies that have unhappy endings – Infinity Wars, A Walk To Remember, 500 Days of Summer – all caused me great emotional distress.
But healthy 9s also have a lot of great traits. The good qualities that most 9s possess include being spiritual, receptive, accepting, and conscious of others’ needs. 9s are usually easy to get along with and good at bringing people together.
A little tidbit that stood out to me in the podcast was that 9s are more like an environment than a person…interesting
Living in such close community with people is my dream but also my worst nightmare. So many benefits come from close community, but it also poses quite a few threats to my inner peace. I am excited to see what this year has in store for me and my other type 9s on the squad!! Also, I’m interested to learn more about the other types we have. Maybe I’ll do more blog posts about my squadmates’ types…
I loooooove talking about the enneagram, so feel free to share your number or what you’ve learned from the test! And go listen to the Liturgist Podcast!
Love y’all,
Em
