Ever since I left for the World Race my mind has been a jumble of mess. I am constantly checking on everyone else in the room, wondering if I’m doing enough for Jesus, worrying if I’m doing anything wrong, trying to soak up every second I have here before these next 11 months fly by…I want to share a poem/song/thing that my good pal Savanna showed me:

If you’re happy and you know it, overthink.

If you’re happy and you know it, overthink.

If you’re happy and you know it, give your brain a chance to blow it.

If you’re happy and you know it, overthink.

I’m laughing as I write this, but guys it’s so true! In a fraction of a second my mind races with what seems like 100 questions – all to which I don’t know a single answer to.

The worst part about overthinking is when you’re finally happy. When you get peace. When your life isn’t burning to the ground. This is when I start to think, “What am I missing? What am I not fixing? What am I not aware of?” This steals the happiness, and I’m left with unnecessary anxiety that is perfectly explained in the tweet below:

So what I always do is pray and set all my burdens and worries at God’s feet, but not a moment later I think “ooh that one looks kind of heavy, let me help you with that!” It’s funny because I doubt God’s strength to carry my burdens, but I trust my own. HA

But I have decided to rewrite the song…

If you’re happy and you know it, just be.

If you’re not happy and you know it, just be.

You see, God doesn’t ask me to be anything more or anything less than what and who and where I am. If I’m stressed – cool. I’m tired – okay. If I’m excited – great. If jet-lag makes me think it’s Tuesday night and it’s really Friday morning – perfect. God wants me to just be. After all, we aren’t human doings, we are human beings. And let me tell ya, that is a lot easier said than done. But thank goodness for grace!!

Sometimes I cheat and google prayers and I found this one that I thought was preeeetty neat:

Father, who lives and rules in Heaven, let your Kingdom come to earth and be established through me (Matt 6:10). There is no fear, no anxiety, and no panic in Heaven. Establish your Kingdom in my heart, that I may walk in peace, in confidence and in strength. Open the eyes of my heart (Luke 24:31) to see all that you have for me. Show me how I have already been blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places (Ephesians 1:3). Help me to receive all that you have for me.

Angels are all around me, ministering to me (Hebrews 1:14). They will guard me according to your word and your command (Psalm 103:20-21). You will not let my foot stumble (Proverbs 3:23). I trust in you, Father, and in you alone. I am your child, and you are my Father (Matthew 23:9). I am seated with Christ in the heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6). I am at rest in your arms.

 AND AMEN TO THAT!!

So I am going to come to God exactly as I am. I am going to set all my goals and desires and expectations and fears at God’s feet…and I’m going to try my hardest to leave them there and choose to trust. Let’s all remind ourselves whose strength we can actually rely on (hint: it’s not ours)!

Love y’all,

Em
